Don’t we sometime wish we could stop time in its track or for someone to find the magic cure to look young forever? Well it’s not going to happen! But there are easy measures, when practiced regularly, that can help slow down the aging process. Here are 9 easy steps you can try at home to look 10 years younger.
SLEEP. SLEEP. SLEEP
I cannot emphasize more on the importance of a good night sleep. Sleep not only makes you feel better but it also improves your mood, removes your under-eye dark circles, helps with weight management, clears your mind and so much more. It’s during the sleep cycle that the cells get renewed. And remember to apply a good amount of moisturizer before going to bed, especially in the winter when the air is really dry.
DON’T SMOKE AND DRINK LESS ALCOHOL
Our Collagen, the protein which helps skin elasticity, gradually degrades with age, leading to wrinkles. Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrients that the skin needs to keep it young.
Drinking alcohol can make your body and skin dehydrated, leaving the skin looking old and tired. So if you are drinking alcohol, drink plenty of water.
PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM SUN
According to several research on the topic, most of the ageing in the skin is actually caused by long term sun exposure. Below are 3 easy tips you can incorporate into your daily routine.
- Avoid the sun during 10am and 4pm when it’s most intense
- Cover your body with protective clothing
- Use sunscreen before you leave the house and re-apply regularly
EAT BETTER
Just by changing your diet, you can change the way you look and feel dramatically. For example, cut out all refined sugar, white flour, and eat more greens, fruits, high Omega-3 fish, and whole grains. The antioxidants found in these foods will help promote a healthy skin.
MEDITATE
“When we meditate (even if for a few minutes a day) we are allowing our minds and bodies to enter a more relaxed state,” says Dr. Cabell. “This will act to release chemicals that counter the “stress” chemicals and hormones. In addition, allowing calm breathing helps oxygenate our bodies and both the breathing and state of calm will help with toxin elimination.”
WALK EVERYWHERE
Living in big cities and working at offices behind a computer all day certainly don’t promote walking. But no matter where you live and what your lifestyle may be, you can add a few extra steps to your walk every day. If you drive, park your car a few blocks away from where you are going. If you take the bus, tram or train, try to walk to the next station and always walk up the stairs rather than take the elevator or escalator.
WORK OUT
Beyond giving you that toned body you always wanted, there are some terrific skin benefits. Exercising can actually help your skin look and stay healthy and helps improve acne, wrinkles, dull skin, etc. So what are you waiting for?
SMILE
Smile and you will instantly look younger! No more frowning and looking sad. Have a good laugh with your friends. You want to reduce your stress whenever possible.
THE NECK!
I very often have to remind myself to treat my neck as I do my face. Remember that the skin there is much thinner and prone to wrinkles. Make sure you don’t leave your neck out.
