Thursday, November 3rd marked the official opening of the luxury French bakery Ladurée at the most sought after address in town – Quai des Bergues in Geneva!
Ladurée was first opened in Paris at 16 Rue Royale in 1862. This tea house is particularly special because of the important movements that began there. It became the safe place where for the first time ladies could meet socially without being confused for “Courtisanes”. Then in the middle of the 20th century, Pierre Desfontaines came up with the idea of joining two macarons together with a delicious filling binding them. It was an immediate hit. Today, 15,000 macarons are sold daily, worldwide.
In 1992 the Holder group bought the brand and David Holder, son of its founder, became its president. He restored the image of the house and re-established the magic it was once known for. You will get to know the brain and vision behind the brand in my exclusive interview coming up soon.
Needless to say, it became the talk of the town as soon as news broke that Ladurée was opening in Geneva and that it was partnering with award winner Interior Designer India Mahdavi who was asked to re-create the signature style of the brand but with her own sensibility and twist. The result is just remarkable – a fluid, colorful yet elegant space where one feels immediately at home and happy. (Stay tuned for my interview with India Mahdavi!) Scores of people, the Who’s Who of Geneva all came to celebrate the long awaited launch to mingle and to be seen. Thank you Sparkle PR for producing and executing such a great and talked about event!
Ladurée is the perfect place to meet your friends, family and even hold business meetings. I was very surprised to see groups of men meeting there the day after it opened. And the best part of it, you will feel David’s essence and spirit during Happy Hour when the music will prep you for a night of fun! It’s a Tea House where tradition meets fun!
