Do you know what is the one thing I’ve always secretly wished for?
…Learn how to project with my voice with confidence and mad skill.
I’ve been playing around with the idea of hiring a voice Coach to help me with this dream for a little while but never had the guts to follow through with it.
Jan Erik Franck is an example of someone who clearly was born with this gift and how he’s used it to live his dream life is simply amazing.
Jan Erik Franck, The voice of Polo
I just love unexpected encounters that lead to the most fun and interesting conversations. Beyond all, what I love the most is to know people beyond the superficial “hello and goodbyes”- as you most likely have noticed already!
For the past four years one of my favorite events of the year, one I try not to never miss because I love it so much, is Snow Polo in St Moritz. One highlight is listening to the commentator. His uncanny talent is the ability to describe the game, in real time, while interjecting a very personal and hilarious sense of humour. (not many get which makes it that much more funny)
It’s fascinating how a voice alone can take you on a journey and fill you up with different emotions. Thinking about it, all these years of going to Snow Polo in St Moritz, I never knew his name nor saw his face. I guess I could have easily found that out but somehow it was more exciting to keep him in the mysterious box!
That commentator happens to be Jan Erik Franck, THE Voice of Polo whom I got to meet last week at the Finale of the Swiss Medium Goal Polo Championship in Zurich. What a treat!

I hope you get to see as I did that behind his super outgoing, fun and bigger than life personality lies a sensitive and kind person.
Fun facts about Polo:
- Being from Iran, I am proud to say that Polo first originated over 2,600 years ago in ancient Persia where it became a national sport. Then it spread to Constantinople, Tibet, China, Japan, India and finally made its way to England, Argentina and Australia.
- Polo can only be played using the right hand.
- The tradition of wearing white pants dates back to the nineteenth century when Indian royals played in the heat, hence the preference for fabrics that were light in colour and weight.
- Polo ponies are not actually ponies, but rather a specific horse bred for polo, usually a cross between a quarter horse and a thoroughbred.
See you in St.Moritz I hope!
