Today’s world can seem a bit daunting and stressful. But is it reason enough to stop living and having fun? If anything I believe this is the perfect time to change our minds and distract ourselves with treats (the size doesn’t matter!)
Since traveling has taken a major hit these days, why not enjoy a staycation? An overnight stay away from home but close enough that you can quickly stop by to pick up the bathing suit you forgot to pack.
This is exactly what I did this past weekend at Sorell Hotel Rigiblick – a pamper filled staycation in the heart of Zurich (but far enough that it felt like a mini vacation!)
ABOUT SORELL RIGIBLICK
Sorell Rigiblick is one of 18 Sorell hotels (Swiss traditional hotels and restaurants) owned by the ZFV group. The 3-4 star hotels have done really well in the past couple of years with over 500 employees and CHF 59 million in sales. Each hotel has its own unique character, reflecting the local region.
“I am delighted to be able to offer our guests not only authentic top-class cuisine but also ultramodern, stylish spa suites. With its unique view over Zurich, the all-suite boutique hotel in the countryside is definitely the only one of its kind in Zurich,” – Vreni Giger, General Manager of the Sorell Hotel Rigiblick.
They may not be considered as luxury hotels but at least the Sorell Rigiblick could easily pass those standards in my opinion, except for the reception area, which doesn’t really exist! We went up and down, back and forth a few times before a lovely lady by the name of Gül (Turkish for Rose) spotted us and kindly showed us the way. Had she not showed us the area, there’s no way we would have ever noticed it! Basically, it’s a small table with a reception sign on it and an old school hotel bell 🙂 Super cute nonetheless!
Gül wore many different hats: receptionist, hostess, and server … all with a big smile. And maybe even Gardner? Every corner, window and table was dressed with colorful, happy Easter flowers and plants. So ready for Spring to come and bring back the smile we all need so much, especially these days.
OUR ROOM
I was in awe! Totally surprised by its style, size and amazing amenities. The design (by Marianne Burkhalter from Burkhalter Sumi Architekten) is modern, colorful and cozy – ideal for both winter and summer. We were so excited that we even invited a few friends over for drinks as if it was our own apartment 🙂
OUR OWN PRIVATE SPA
The Sorell Hotel Rigiblick is a newly renovated boutique hotel with two 70m2 suites (which used to be apartments) with each their own private spa (and I’m not referring to a small bathtub which can be used as a Jacuzzi). It’s a proper spa: brand new sauna fitting 2 people very comfortably, a steam room / shower, and a huge bathtub/whirlpool and tons of Rituals product!
I loved the freedom and privacy having our own spa provided us. We didn’t feel rushed by the opening hours or deterred by the crowd. We took our time with dinner then went upstairs, turned on our music and calmly began our own relaxation ritual.
DINING
Bistro Rigiblick is a small, cozy restaurant which offers delicious, uncomplicated homemade dishes prepared with only seasonal and local ingredients. It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The latter is perfect for those going to the Rigiblick Theatre afterward (literarily next door).
What I loved the most, aside for the dishes my palette and tummy rejoiced in, was the singing going on in the kitchen during the breakfast hours. Everyone sounded so happy and in the moment. I wish more establishments and work places would encourage their employees to have fun and express themselves freely. It would add some much vibrancy and positive energy.
Fun Food Facts:
