We’ve had Soya Latte, Chai Latte, Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte and Bulletproof Latte but the new and hot kid on the block is the Wellness Latte.
All the hip spots in London, LA, New York, Sydney and Melbourne are serving up a new type of hot morning drink, one laced with adaptogens.
I had never heard the word until last week.
It seems Nature has given us some fabulous natural gifts, which scientifically improve the health of our adrenal glands, balance hormones and help the body manage stress.
I love a mid morning coffee but I am not wedded to it. I could definitely be persuaded to try an alternative energy boosting, stress diminishing hot pick me up. This morning I made a Rocket Fuel Adaptogen Hemp Laced Brew. It was different but delicious, and I felt great afterwards (recipe below).
Athletes and nutritionists around the world are swearing by their power, particularly medicinal mushroom adaptogens.
Nicolas Müller, friend of DOL and top Swiss Snowboarder, described the power of adaptogen mushrooms to me “as miracle workers”.
He was referring to Four Sigmatic’s Chaga Mushroom Brew. “Chaga is the new coffee! Thanks to Four Sigmatic bringing back the secret of mushrooms and the vitality that comes within!”
Jess Barron from Livestrong says these powerful herbs will soon become mainstream . Expect to see them labelled on your favourite pre-packaged foods soon. Companies are learning about their benefits and will use their power to effectively market their products.
All adaptogens are safe plant-based ingredients
HIT LIST TO LOOK OUT FOR
Mushrooms are the Kings of adaptogens. Try Reishi, Shiitake, Chaga, Cordyceps or Lion’s Mane. These gems give our immune system a super boost.
A Finnish company called Four Sigma Foods are leading the way in mushroom brew selling to 21 countries currently and growing. Order a brew like Nicolas Müller does.
Alternatively, Shiitake are an easy buy. Eat them raw, add them to omelets and curries, dry them and steep as a tea, boosting your immune system naturally.
Other companies joining the mushroom revolution are: Moon Juice, Buddha Teas, Terrasoul Superfoods, and Cap Beauty, Sun Potion reishi mushrooms.
Holy Basil is a member of the mint family. I have had it in pesto. It has a very strong peppermint flavour so brace yourself. Holy Basil helps fight the battle to protect our heart against stress.
Another stress fighting adaptogen is Rosemary. It is an everyday herb which no doubt many of you will have used but probably don’t know that it has two compounds, caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid, which support our key organs.
Aloe Vera is common and available in every health food store. It contains acemannan and aloctin A, which makes this pearl a supernova supporting our immune and adrenal health.
Rhodiola rosea can be bought online in Switzerland. It is used by people struggling with adrenal fatigue and fibromyalgia.
Maca again can be found in most health food shops. It boosts energy and also calms anxiety naturally. There are three types of maca powders: red, yellow, and black. Red maca is the sweetest and mildest tasting. Yellow maca is the least sweet, and black maca is somewhere in between the two.
