Waldhaus Flims has been on my list for a long time now. Even before my move to Switzerland I always heard stories about this beautiful region in the Eastern Swiss canton of Graubünden, 1.5 hours away from Zurich. Growing up my husband used to spend all his weekends in LAAX snowboarding and getting in trouble and the Waldhaus was always part of our conversations when reminiscing his childhood.
And guess what we did as soon as we moved?
There I even conducted a video interview with world renown snowboarder Nicolas Müller shortly after I founded Discover Out Loud. What a treat that was!
Needless to say I was thrilled when I received the invitation to spend a weekend there to celebrate summer (even if it bailed on us!)

- Built in 1869 as “Waldhaus-Flims cure and lake-bathing establishment.
- The hotel was founded in 1877.
- In 2016, the hotel underwent a $40 Million renovation.

Waldhaus Flims in full swing for the opening of summer
I had no idea what to expect regarding the summer party. I just knew that it would be an outdoors festival with lots of activities for kids, entertainment and of course food. I didn’t know if bad weather had been accounted for in the original planning and hoped for them they had a back up plan because the predictions were pretty gloomy.
No matter what it would be a wonderful time. A beautiful setting, a big spa, lots of food and alcohol, what else does one need to be happy? Not to mention the staff: present, engaged and agreeable.
OUR ROOM
What a treat. The details of our Deluxe Room were meticulously planned and executed – from the furniture, the warm colors, to the amount of natural light entering the room, and of course the views – pure bliss!
DAY SPA & SWIMMING POND
A place where guests can relax in peace and focus on looking and feeling good. I enjoyed every part of it – the heated outdoor pool, the indoor pool and of course the pond where dozens of fish were swimming and kissing away.
Aromatic steam baths / Finnish sauna / Hammam
Natural aromas infused steam baths, 85°C hot stones sauna and a 40°C hammam steam bath – perfect combination for a heavenly experience away from the hustle and bustle of the real world, tucked away in the embrace of nature.
DINNING
Pomodoro – “Italianness for the whole family”
I’d say that Pomodoro is a typical neighborhood Italian restaurant where people go to enjoy a good old Italian dish (with a modern twist) in a non-complicated and fun setting. Only 5 minutes from the hotel by foot.
