What can I say, I’ve become hooked on mountain air. Who would have thought? Certainly not me! I catch myself planning weekend trips to our beautiful Alps at least once a month. Something about the fresh air, the beautiful skies and most of all the power of nature keeps drawing me back. When connecting to the infinite energy transmitted by mountains, I feel not only stronger but also more grounded and somehow secure. At that moment, nothing else matters but what I’m receiving from mother Earth – we become one in the vastness of nature. Needless to say that a weekend at the 350 year young Lenkerhof Gourmet Spa Resort was celebrated as it should have been – with excitement and impatience.
Tucked in the Simmental Valley and surrounded by endless nature, this former bathhouse is quite impressive. Guests can not only relax at their leisure at the 2000 m2 “7sources beauty & spa” but they also get to heal their bodies in the 34°C outdoor pool filled with crystal clear sulphur water from the hotel’s own spring (click here to understand the benefits of sulphur spring water).
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The ride there was absolutely breathtaking. Surprised? I don’t think I ever had a drive that was not spectacular in Switzerland. Maybe while passing Bern but that only lasts 15-20 minutes!
The weather that weekend was on our side. The sun was beaming and flirting with us as it’s used to doing at the beginning of Spring. Since it was the last weekend of the season, the village of Lenke wasn’t as populated as I imagined it was just a few weeks prior. However, to my big surprise, our hotel was jam-packed which I love. To me there’s nothing like a lively hotel buzzing with guests coming and going.
Upon checking in, we got greeted with big and welcoming smiles, which by the way lasted our entire stay. The staff was friendly, helpful and generally very happy (it probably didn’t hurt that it was their last weekend before a long break).
Our room was spacious with a stunning view which one can never get tired of.
DINING
Restaurant Spettacolo
By far (and I mean it) the best concept I’ve experienced and I’ll tell you why. Spettacolo, 16 points Gault-Millau restaurant has totally understood its ideal customer. From my experience, chefs like to surprise their guests by showering them with their special dishes, one after another. Most of the time, I love it but there are times when I simply cannot eat what they propose or have no more room and feel bad about hurting their feelings. Spettacolo’s concept is brilliant because the guest is the decision maker. Head chef Stefan Lünse and his team present us their unique and elaborate menu from which we can handpick what we want, for as little or as much as our tummy can take. I even went as far as ordering the same appetizers multiple times! Basically, there are 16 dishes to pick from (the menu changes daily) – and all dietary and lifestyle needs are taken into consideration.
Spettacolo merits its 16 Gault-Millau points, and more in my opinion.
