For years while living in Los Angeles I was addicted to Kundalini Yoga taught by Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa at the Golden Bridge. I never missed my Thursday and Sunday evening sessions especially because the latter was followed by a vegetarian dinner at her house!
When the drive and traffic became too unbearable, I started taking classes at various studios in Santa Monica. I had my favorite teachers and followed them like a groupie! The best part about these studios was that payments were donation based so anyone could go. I wish all studios would follow that model.
When I moved to New York, I was able to find comparable studios, Jivamukti Yoga in Union Square and Go Yoga in Williamsburg, closer to home.
But when I moved to Zurich, I had no idea where to begin my search. The US spoiled me and I’ve become picky!! Plus, on top of finding a good class, I had to find one taught in English! Not an easy task!
Anyway to make a long story short, after trying a few different studios and instructors I was able to find a few that I like and can understand! But be ready for a steep fee!
Air Yoga – Yoga fanatics come from all over to attend classes at Air Yoga. Their roster includes true Yogis as well as world-known instructors traveling to Zurich to share their gifts with us. And by the way, Gurmukh will teach a workshop on May 14. Both sessions are fully booked but you may get lucky if someone cancels!
Yoga Nation – This studio is just super convenient because it’s a 2 minute walk from my apartment. I was impressed by the quality of their instructors and classes.
Ashtanga Yoga Zurich – Interesting instruction concept where students come and practice independently, under the supervision and with the help of the teacher. Students can arrive any time they want, as long as they start early enough to finish their practice by the advertised end-times. And to make it even more appealing, 50% of the profits are donated to a charity in India.
